Ready for the Isle of Wight Garlic Festival This Year?

The Isle of Wight Garlic Festival is perhaps one of the strangest, yet unique foodie events in the whole of the UK. Who would’ve thought that they could even invent a whole fair filled with original entertainment, based around the theme of garlic?!

Set amongst the beautiful backdrop of the Isle of Wight, the Garlic Festival is located in the very heart of the island, just outside the small village of Newchurch. With hundreds of arts and crafts stalls, cooking demonstrations from top UK chefs, animal showcases, live music, children’s entertainers, sporting activities and a traditional fun fair, there’s plenty to see and do, even if you don’t actually like the taste of garlic!

The Food

Of course, as a food festival based around garlic, expect plenty of sampling throughout the day – just remember to bring along some breath mints! Expect a diverse mix of pungent, garlic-themed treats, from savouries, such as sweetcorn, popcorn, cheese, vegetables and mushrooms, to sweets, such as fudge, ice cream, biscuits and scones. Even the local wines, ciders and juices will have a tinge of garlic!

The theatre kitchen is the most talked about section of the event. Last year Little Paris Kitchen chef, Rachel Khoo, was the star of the show. The 2016 line up will feature mainly local chefs and foodie experts who will be hosting live demonstrations throughout the entire weekend.

Live Music and Entertainment

The music line up always features a diverse array of performers, including British chart toppers and local favourites. This year The Searchers will be performing alongside a collection of top class national and local bands.

The kids love the Isle of Wight garlic festival – even the fussy eaters! With falcon displays, a bouncy castle, face painters, magicians, Punch and Judy shows and a one-man-band, it will keep the little ones entertained for hours.

If garlic, live music and cooking displays won’t quite satisfy your needs, the island’s biggest annual fun-fair will also take place on the festival site, featuring collections of rare and classic cars, archery, and of course, a beer tent!

If you’d like to actually take part and join the 300 other suppliers at the trading show, you must purchase an exhibition stand for both days and apply via the official website. This will include two admission tickets, and entitle you to further discounts should you require more.

Dates and Prices

The festival site will be open from 10am until 6pm on both the 20th and 21st of August. There is parking nearby if you’re travelling across on the ferry. Tickets can only be purchased on the gate and cost £9.50 per adult, £5 per child and £8.50 for students and the elderly. Under 5s enter free of charge.

The Isle of Wight Garlic Festival really is a great day out for all the family. Whether you’re looking to explore new ways of cooking or simply want to take in the sights, sounds and smells, there will definitely be something that will tickle your fancy (and taste buds!)
