Top 10 Family Days Out on the Isle of Wight

2nd September 2015 Published by
Bestival 2014

We have prepared another handy list of ideas to consider when planning your next stay at Whitecliff Bay. Hopefully you’ll find it useful!

robin-hill-adventureRobin Hill Country Park (Newport):

Set in 88 acres of beautiful countryside, this park is home to famous annual events like its Festival of Lights. There are also fun walkways, a mini train, falconry and more. Please note that Robin Hill is playing host to Bestival 2015, and therefore will be closed from September 7th to October 3rd. Click the Bestival link if you want to know more about that great event coming up soon.

Butterfly World (Newport):

See hundreds of butterflies fluttering free in a natural environment in this wondrous place! Study these beautiful creatures in their natural habitats, and enjoy the surroundings, as well as the Japanese gardens, Koi ponds, and Fountain World!

Coleman’s Farm (Porchfield):

This play and petting farm offers great activities for kids aged 2 to 12 years. The play barns contain haylofts, zip lines, slides, tunnels, pits and more. There are also lots of adorable farm animals to see, feed and pet.

Sally’s Riding School (St. Helens):

You may have previously enjoyed the Isle of Wight scenery while walking its trails, or from atop your bicycle, but why not swap the bike saddle for the riding saddle, and explore on horseback? Sally’s offers rides on some of the finest sandy beaches near Whitecliff Bay, and is suitable for all age groups and riding levels.

Jungle Jim’s (Shanklin):

Every list needs an option for those days when the weather isn’t on our side, and we need to keep our younger kids stimulated. Jungle Jim’s offers slides, ball pools, inflatables, runways – and of course there’s more. They even cater to kids’ parties if your young one’s special day falls during your getaway.

dinosaur-isle-see-do-museums-galleries-largeDinosaur Expeditions (Brighstone):

This wonderful local organisation promotes conservation and a love for science through its fossil exploration adventures, and informative exhibits. Attendees can take part in trips to various coastal locations throughout the year. The good users of Trip Advisor have consistently ranked this attraction very highly, and it continues to do well.

Butterfly Paragliding (Chale):

Visiting local attractions, monuments and areas of natural beauty is one thing, but enjoying paragliding at Butterfly will give it all a brand-new perspective. Butterfly offers towing and tandem flights, backed up with years of expertise and the best equipment available. Even beginners can take part in this thrilling and potentially life-changing experience.

Shanklin Treasure Trail (Shanklin Old Village):

Fancy taking a little adventure together as a family? This is for you! The Shanklin Treasure Trail is a walking route approximately 2.5 miles long (allow around 2 hours to complete it), and will allow you to see the hidden gems of Shanklin. Download the maps from the website above, follow the trail, solve the clues, and see the sights! Please note that this trail is not suitable for very young children, as there are some steep steps and inclines to conquer, and may give them some difficulty.

6Shanklin Beach (Shanklin):

If the treasure trail sounds a bit much, or if you’re younger ones aren’t up to it, then a trip to Shanklin Beach could be just what you need. The bay is sheltered from the prevailing wind by Dunnose Point, which is also a stunning backdrop. There is a pitch and putt golf course nearby, and the lift provides easy access to the cliff tops. The water is recent Blue Flag awarded and safe for swimming.

And for the tenth entry?

Let’s not forget the park itself, with its wonderful facilities, accommodation, MyActive programme for the kids, outdoor cinema and so much more. Check out our Isle of Wight holidays for the best accommodation deals in 2015, and book your next family trip with us now!
