About Land's End
Land's End is the most westerly point of Great Britain. Next stop, is across the pond to the America’s. The point is home to the First and Last post, mimicking the post in John O’Groats, Scotland, which is a massive 838 miles away. Many charity and fundraising events commence and conclude here, from races, to televised news and sport documentaries. In 2012, The 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games started right here, with the Olympic flame being received from Beijing. Flown into Royal Naval Air Station (RNAS) Culdrose, Helston, the flame had finally touched British soil. Being met by David Beckham, the flame was transported from Helston to Land's End to begin the tour, through the country, in time for the games to begin.
On a fine day, you can see Longships Lighthouse. The Lighthouse marks where the English Channel meets the Irish Sea. The currents can get so bad, the waves hit a new record swell, measuring 29.9 feet, during a storm early February 2014. Land's End has a spectacular view of the cliffs and coast, whatever the weather. The point is also home to Land's End Hotel, and a few shops and attractions.
Parking is available for small charge, with a fairly big car park. There is some attractions and activities for little ones, the farm with a smallholding near the entrance to lands End, is home to many small farm yard animal.
How to get to Land's End
Drive along the M4 motorway from London or the M6 motorway from Manchester, joining the M5 motorway towards Exeter then the A30 into Cornwall. Alternatively, if you’re travelling from or via North Devon, you can opt to join the A39 from junction 27 on the M5 and travel down the north coast to join the A30 at Indian Queens. If you’re travelling from or via South Devon, take the A38 through Plymouth and Liskeard and join the A30 at Carminnow Cross. Once on the A30, which is mostly dual carriageway, travel westbound towards Redruth, Camborne and Hayle until you reach Penzance. In Penzance, look for signs marked Land’s End and follow the A30 for 9 miles until you reach the village of Sennen. In Sennen, travel through the village, past the road to Sennen Cove and beyond the First & Last Inn. You’ll find Land’s End at the very end of the A30 road.
