The Best Ice Cream Flavour Combinations to Try This Summer1st July 2016
The spring is in full swing and taste buds are changing. Now that ice cream is on the agenda, it’s a good time to try out a few different flavour combinations. If you feel like experiencing something new, the following ideas will help.
Perfect for a movie night. Add a teaspoon of butter to a couple scoops of vanilla ice cream and thoroughly mix it in. Then make a bag of popcorn and sprinkle it on top. Alternatively, exchange the butter for sea salt, toffee sauce or chocolate chips. Basically, whatever flavour popcorn you prefer will work.
Chocolate and Coconut
The combination of chocolate and coconut will make an ice cream that tastes exactly like a Bounty chocolate bar. If you want to make your own, simply mix a can of coconut milk with caster sugar, chocolate chips and dessicated coconut, and leave it in the freezer.
A sprinkling of sea salt can literally compliment any flavour of ice cream. While salted caramel is all the rage these days, try it with chocolate or Nutella. All of the world’s greatest chocolate makers recommend salting sweet food, and ice cream is no exception.
Chocolate and Vanilla
Sometimes you just can’t beat the classics! Chocolate and vanilla has been in partnership ever since the beginning of ice cream. This common combination is rich, velvety and timeless. It doesn’t matter where you are or what mood you’re in, chocolate and vanilla will hit the spot. To make it even more special, add a little drizzle of chocolate sauce.
Coffee and Oreo
What’s not to like? Mixing everybody’s favourite drink with everybody’s favourite cookie. Coffee flavoured ice cream is unbelievably refreshing, but the strong, bitter taste can sometimes take centre stage. By adding Oreo ice cream or a few chunks of crumpled biscuit, you could give it a whole new, sweeter edge.
Peanut Butter and Jelly
If you’ve ever seen an American television show as a kid, the peanut butter and jelly combo has probably cropped up at some point. To make your own (more British) take on this classic snack, simply add a dollop of strawberry jam and peanut butter to some vanilla ice cream.
Lemon Sorbet and Cheesecake
If you ever come across a cheesecake flavoured ice cream, make sure you eat it alongside equal parts lemon sorbet. This combination is sweet, yet tangy, and will leave your sweet tooth satisfied for hours. If you feel like making a cheesecake yourself, consider using lemon curd instead of cream cheese, and then add a generous helping of vanilla ice cream to serve.
The Coke Float
Okay, this may not be an ice cream combination, but it’s definitely worth mentioning. The coke float is essentially a glass of coke with a hefty scoop of vanilla ice cream on top – sounds weird right? While it sounds like an odd combination (and looks even stranger!), it’s actually pretty tasty. If you feel particularly daring, feel free to experiment with other soft drinks.
