DSC_4719It’s true – the summer holidays are over. The cooler months of autumn and winter are fast approaching, but that doesn’t mean that the fun in Lincolnshire will stop. There are plenty of activities happening all around the county, and Tattershall Lakes is a great place to base yourself if you want to take part in one or more of them!

Milling Days at Cogglesford Watermill:

Head down to Sleaford and see this historic mill, which now opens its doors every second Sunday of the month until December 13th, from 11:00am to 4:00pm, for a “Milling Day.” Come along and see the machines at work as wholemeal flour is produced in the same way this mill has been doing for 200 years.

Market Rasen Races:

On October 5th, head up to Market Rasen for a day watching the sport of kings. They have a great family area, including a picnic zone to enjoy the last of the outdoor weather before father frost makes his presence known.

This is one of the best-known and most popular county events, and it’s all happening on Saturday, October 24th. Head to Lincoln Castle to take part in the 13th Lincoln Sausage Festival, where last year an absolutely astonishing 32,000 sausages were sold! Lincoln is famous the world over for its sausages, but this event is also famous for great entertainments, and fun activities like the kids’ cookery demonstration.

South Lincolnshire Walking Festival:

Anyone up for a more outdoorsy experience should head into South Lincolnshire for this wonderful walking festival that runs until October 31st. There are over 70 walks to choose from, all led by friendly local volunteers. Many of the walks are also “talking walks” where you can learn about the local area and points of special interest. Walks are on offer to suit all ages and fitness levels, so that no one should be discouraged from taking part. Other activities on the walks include (but are not limited to) bat detecting, mollusc hunting, pond dipping and bird spotting.
