Summer Fun at the Isle of Wight Cycling Festival

2nd June 2015 Published by

wcb-cycleFrom September 5th to 27th in 2015, you can be part of something truly great – the Isle of Wight Cycling Festival. Don’t forget to load up the bikes on your car when you prepare to come stay with us at Whitecliff Bay, because this is going to be a cycling program that you will definitely want to be a part of. Don’t worry if you haven’t got space to load the bikes pop into Guest Services and they will provide you with all the info on the nearest bike hire shop and even book it for you if you like! Keep your eyes on the website for more details to be posted in July, but in the meantime let’s look at two of their more exciting events that are already confirmed.

Cycle the Wight – September 20th

This event is currently open for those who wish to register, and is a 50- or 70-mile epic bike ride following the “Round the Island Route.” Anyone taking part will be supporting the very worthy cause of The British Heart Foundation. This incredible route has attracted enthusiasts in search of an endurance challenge for years now, but now comes as part of a philanthropic package as well.

Bembridge ShelfHills Killer – September 14th

The first thing to note about this incredible event is that it is NOT a race. This is an orienteering event covering a series of either 3 or 7 hills, depending on just how far you want to go. Participants are given a series of checkpoints to cover, located all over the island. Making use of the SPORTident chip issued to them at the start of their journey, riders will journey to each checkpoint and then log their arrival using their chip. Those able to cover all the checkpoints and return the chip safely will receive a reward! While advanced registration for this event is actually over, there are typically spots open on the day, and so those interested are encouraged to turn up and take part.

More events, routes and exciting bike trails are to be announced on the official website of the Isle of Wight Cycling Festival in the coming weeks, so keep your eyes peeled!
