Things to do at Whitecliff Bay: Trip to the Zoo

2nd July 2014 Published by

When you’re staying at Whitecliff Bay, you’re in the perfect position to explore everything the Isle of Wight has to offer. Besides the wonderful natural beauty and the wealth of history and heritage, there are also some more modern attractions that are fun for the whole family. Two of those things are the zoos on offer, namely the Isle of Wight Zoo, and Amazon World Zoo Park.

The family-run Isle of Wight Zoo is open from 10:00am to 5.30pm each day, and tickets start at £10 for adults, and £7.50 for children from 3 to 16 years of age. Located barely a stone’s throw from Bembridge in nearby Sandown, the zoo is small but packed with fun for the whole family. The zoo specializes mostly in their care for tigers and lemurs, but also is home to a huge variety of animals, including lions, meerkats, jaguars, monkeys, wallabies and many more. The zoo is still locally famous as a place that used to walk its tiger cubs down on the beach! While this no longer happens, the zoo is now a sanctuary for older big cats and other endangered species that your family can now learn about in a fun and interesting way.

amazon-worldAmazon World Zoo Park specializes more in tropical species, and has been a “Top Attraction” award winner in recent years. The park gives visitors the chance to see a myriad of animals, including bats, monkeys, crocodiles, snakes, frogs, fish, spiders, birds, otters, armadillos and much more. Housed in wonderfully simulated rainforest environments, the park’s exhibits serve not only as a place for families to enjoy themselves, but also for visitors to learn a lot about the rainforest ecosystem and the need to protect and conserve it. Amazon World Zoo Park is open from 10.00am all year round, and adult tickets start at £9.50, with children being admitted for just £7.50. Other family/group tickets with discounts are available.

If you’ve driven to Whitecliff Bay, then you’ll also be glad to know that both zoos have ample parking, and so can be part of your fun-filled drive out to enjoy everything the Isle of Wight has to offer.
