Family fun in Snowdonia

17th June 2014 Published by

bab-parkSnowdonia remains the premier national park of Wales, and one of the UK’s top tourist destinations year on year. At Barmouth Bay, we are lucky to be situated within the park, and therefore are the perfect base for a family looking for a fun-filled holiday in Snowdonia over the summer, and indeed at any other time of year. Mountain climbing, heavy-duty hiking and sailing boats are not always “family-friendly” activities to enjoy. So what does Snowdonia offer that’s particularly good for whole families traveling together?

A good first port of call would be the Greenwood Forest Park in Gwynedd. It was voted “Best Family Attraction in North Wales” in both 2012 and 2013. The park itself boasts 17 acres of land, housing fantastic woodland adventure for the whole family. The park is open from 10:00am to 05:30pm, except during September, October and November when the opening hours change to 10:00am to 05:00pm. Tickets range from just £7.50 to £8.00, so it’s even a good choice for family’s on more of a shoestring budget.

If it’s more of an indoors day of fun you’re looking for, then you should check out The Fun Centre in Christchurch, Caernarfon. The Fun Centre is open all year round from 10:00am, and has a total of 1400 square feet of space. Activities include 25-foot drop slides, ball pools, swings over nets, tumble towers, mini go-karts, a maze and much more. What’s more is that with tickets from just £2.00 to £6.00, it is once again not a big strain on anyone’s budget for a day of great value family fun and games.

GoApeFamilyWEB-220x220If you’re travelling with older children in their teens, it’s quite possible that the above two might not have the same appeal to them as with younger kids. One recommended activity for active teenagers is climbing Tryfan. Many are fascinated by this hill, mainly because of it’s interesting dinosaur-like shape, but also because it can be ascended and descended in as little as three hours in total — perfect for teens who want to keep active but don’t have all day to spend up a hillside!

Finally, we should return to look at our very own Barmouth itself. Families of all ages and size can have fun at the lovely beach at Barmouth, taking in the sea views and breathing in the sea air. They can also enjoy gentle strolls, nice bike rides, and walking about the town together uncovering its many secrets. Ask for more information on fun things to do in the area from the helpful staff at Barmouth Bay.
