FAQs about holiday home ownership with Away Resorts

Where are our resorts?

You’ll find Away Resorts in all the top spots in the UK. We currently have two resorts in Scotland, including one just up the road from the infamous Gleneagles. Three resorts in Lincolnshire and one resort on the long, sweeping stretch of sand at Filey in Yorkshire, a couple of resorts in North Wales, one in the unique location of Mersea Island in Essex, a choice of four resorts spanning the Isle of Wight, another island retreat on Hayling Island, a woodland haven in the New Forest, a couple of options in rural Dorset; and no less than five resorts covering the epic North coast of Cornwall.

What type of holiday homes do you sell?

We sell holiday homes with a little added wow! On our resorts, you will see top of the range static caravan holiday homes and luxury lodges from leading manufacturers. We have the latest luxurious models and stand out features including roof terraces, delivering the best views around for you to enjoy with your favourite evening tipple. At Retallack Resort & Aps in Cornwall, we also have a range of mortgageable holiday homes. These stunners come with a 999-year lease and 10-year warranty as well as investment buying options so you can sit back and earn and enjoy. We also have a small range of residential options at our Glendevon Country Park, these are available as a second home or as your primary residence.

How much does a typical holiday home cost?

We like to think that we’ve got a holiday home for every pocket with pre-loved static caravan holiday homes starting at about £24,995 or for something new from around £39,995 including fees, our luxury lodges starting at £159,995 and our mortgageable properties range from £295,000 up to £525,000. We understand our holiday homes are not the cheapest on the market, but that’s because we want your new lifestyle to have the hint of luxury it deserves and so only have the best of the best holiday homes available at our resorts. We also throw in a package of owner benefits and fabulously maintained resorts.

Do I have to pay a deposit to secure my holiday home?

Yes, a deposit will secure the Holiday Home and your pitch or chosen plot, deposits are generally 10% off the sale price.

Is finance available?

You may be able to spread the cost of your holiday home with our finance options available on some static caravans and lodges (subject to approval, T&Cs apply) so your dream lifestyle could easily become an affordable reality with easy monthly payments.

Here at Away Resorts, we are licensed Credit Brokers and subject to your personal circumstances, we can put you in touch with specialist lenders in this field. If you decide to go ahead with your purchase, we can usually get a decision on the day you visit, and you can be rest assured the monthly payments are within your budget. Please note that terms and conditions apply and offers will vary depending on your credit score and/or credit history.

You can borrow any amount from £1,000 upwards with repayments of up to 84 months. A percentage, usually around 20% cash deposit will be required.

Our Holiday Home Ownership Advisors will also talk you through the different funding options that we have available.

Our boutique barns at Retallack Resort & Spa are built to full building regulations and are ICW certified meaning that they are fully mortgageable. Give us a call or drop us an email for more information.

Can I choose my pitch?

We want you to love everything about your holiday home, so in most cases you will be offered the opportunity to choose the pitch that is just right for you, whether it is to get the perfect view, be close to the pool, or be in the furthest reaches of the resort. This is particularly easy at our resorts which have brand new plots available thanks to our exciting new developments. At times you may choose a holiday home that has already been assigned to a specific pitch but just have a chat with the sales team and they will do their very best to help.

Do I pay stamp duty when I buy my caravan holiday home?

Buying a holiday caravan or lodge is a simple and straightforward process which avoids the need for stamp duty, solicitors’ fees, and council tax. Mortgageable holiday homes take a more traditional approach and stamp duty will be due.

What are the costs of owning a holiday home?

Holiday home ownership is not all skipping along the coastline and romantic dinners as the sun goes down (although it almost is!) and it is important to consider the ongoing costs as you imagine the dawn of your new lifestyle.

As with owning a car or a home there are some additional running costs that need to be budgeted for.

In addition to the initial purchase of your dream home from home, you will need to cover your annual site fees, utilities, and annual insurance. There’s also general maintenance to factor in, although modern holiday homes are economical to maintain, and all of this can be easily arranged with your resort of choice. At some of our resorts you will have the option to make the most of our managed letting service which will make money from the time that you find it impossible to escape; and this can sometimes cover your annual costs, so you can have your holiday home cake and eat it!

How much are your site fees and running costs?

Each of our resorts is a one of a kind and so our site fees and running costs vary dependent on location and the resort type. However, our site fees are extremely competitive with utilities being charged on top dependant on select resorts. Download a brochure here.

Is my holiday home covered by a warranty?

Purchasing a brand new, ex-demo or pre-loved holiday home with Away Resorts on or after March 9th, 2023, allows you to enjoy peace of mind with our 3-year Warranty package. To us, age doesn’t matter, at Away Resorts, we’ve got you covered! Find out more here.

Our mortgageable holiday homes at Retallack Resort & Spa have a 10-year warranty from ICW.

Do you provide holiday home insurance?

It will be necessary to purchase your own insurance.

When can I use my holiday home?

Our holiday homes have top notch insulation, some have central heating and double glazing, so you’ll have access to all seasons! Our resorts have varying season lengths from 7 months right through to the whole year, so you can enjoy crunchy autumn leaves, snuggly nights in with winds whistling, Spring awakening and long balmy, summer days. We believe that all it takes to leave your everyday behind, is to just get away and find some space to breathe. So, whenever, you need to do just that, we’ll be here waiting to welcome you back.

Can I live in my holiday home?

All but one of our parks are holiday parks and are classified as holiday homes, so restrictions do apply, and you will need to provide evidence of a primary (main) residence. If you are looking for a  residential home please look at Glendevon Resort, Scotland, where you can choose to purchase a holiday home or live in full time.

Do you offer Residential Park Homes?

Yes, we do. Currently our resort in Scotland, Glendevon Resort, is a predominantly residential resort where you can live.

Can I rent out my caravan holiday home when I’m not there?

At most of our holiday resorts we offer a managed letting service, which you can earn money from to help offset your running costs, when you can’t be there yourself. Away Resorts makes this as easy as pie by looking after all the marketing and securing your bookings. We also welcome your guests, look after them when they are on holiday and then tidy up after them so that your treasured holiday home is ready for you to enjoy the next time you visit. For more information on this scheme, contact your resort of choice.

Are Away Resorts suitable for families or couple?

We love welcoming guests from every generation and seeing families enjoying making memories together at all our resorts. However, we also understand that some of our holiday homeowners are looking for a little slice of heaven which keeps the noise and exuberance of energetic little ones at a very safe distance! You will find that our larger resorts, with a greater range of facilities and child friendly activities, have a more magnetic pull to families with wee ones, whereas our smaller quieter retreats tend to be a little more suited to grownup getaways and getting your fix of peace and quiet. However, even at our most lively resorts there is always a quiet nook to be found, plus you have the option of using our managed letting service to make money from your holiday home during the school holidays and then you can let loose on all those fabulous facilities when the kids are safely back at school. For advice on which of our resorts would best suit you just give us a call.

Can I bring my pet along?

Yes, yes, yes! We love to see those tails wagging! All of our resorts are dog friendly and as long as your four-legged friend is a good doggie who embraces holiday life, they will be welcome to come and enjoy your time away, right alongside you. Our resort locations have lots to offer dog owners, from beaches just perfect for walkies to special dog menus and ice cream treats!

What facilities do you have on site?

Our facilities vary from resort to resort so take a good look around our resort pages to get a feel for each one or give us a call for some tailored advice. You can choose a destination like Retallack Resort and Spa in Cornwall, or Tattershall Lakes in Lincolnshire which in terms of facilities have the works. Think giant inflatable aqua parks, surfing simulators, kids’ clubs, fitness classes, scrumptious food and an indulgent spa. Or, if that’s not for you, you can opt for a more minimal approach such as St Helens Coastal Resort or St Ives Bay where the location, oodles of green space and a “get away from it all feel” do all the talking.

When time of year are the facilities closed?

Facilities opening times vary by resort and even where we offer a 12-month ownership season you might find that some of our facilities are closed over the Winter period.  Once you have decided which resort is right for you, our friendly team will be able to confirm the availability of all the services that you find on the park.

How do I know if the resort is right for me?

Our friendly sales teams would be more than happy to speak to you on the phone or provide advice by email to help you narrow down which of our resorts are the most suited to you but there is nothing like trying it out for yourself! Check out the travel time, nose around the holiday homes, meet the team, try out the facilities and explore the local area. We offer a VIP resort tour, or why not book a break with us allowing you to experience our facilities first hand before you commit to ownership. If you decide it is right for you we will refund the cost of your holiday once you purchase.
