Not far from the Blackwater Estuary and surrounded by beautiful South East scenery, Abberton Reservoir is a 1,200-acre lake close to the Essex coast. Whether you’re observing the local wildlife, testing yourself with a long walk or enjoying a day outdoors with your kids, there’s lots to see and do at one of the largest reservoirs in the UK.
Abberton Reservoir is only around five miles south of the centre of Colchester, with a drive of just over 10 minutes from junction 26 of the A12. It’s a similar journey to Norwich, while you can complete your journey to the reservoir either in a taxi or on the bus. A number of routes head south of Colchester towards Abberton, including the number 67 and 68, while the number 92 stops at Layer Breton Hall not far from the visitor centre.
