About Llyn Padarn
Lying in the foothills of Mount Snowdon in North Wales, Llyn Padarn is an 800-acre glacially formed lake which lies within some of the most spectacular scenery in the UK. Offering a range of activities including walking, swimming, cycling and fishing, you can also visit the National Slate Museum and go for a ride on a steam railway. The Llyn Padarn railway stretches along the lake’s northern shore between Llanberis and Pen Lly, although you can walk around the lake if you prefer to take your time enjoying the views. From water sports and country parks to adventure courses for kids and cultural attractions, you can even go rock climbing, orienteering and scuba diving in and around the lake. This means there’s something for everyone to enjoy in this beautiful little corner of Wales.
How to get to Llyn Padarn
Lyn Padarn lies along the A4086 between Capel Curig and Caernarfon. It’s only around 15 minutes from the A55, which you can leave at either junction 9, 10 or 11, depending on which direction you’re coming from. There’s a pay and display car park in Llanberis, although you can also find free parking around the lake if you don’t mind being out of the village. If you’re travelling using public transport, there’s a train station in Bangor 10 miles away. You can jump on the number 85 bus from here to Llanberis, taking around 45 minutes.
