New Forest travel expert shares where to take your significant other for a romantic sunset this Valentine’s Day.
09 February 2026
With Valentine’s Day on the horizon and falling on a Saturday, many couples are considering a New Forest holiday for a romantic Valentine’s weekend getaway. In fact, there have been 8,000 searches for ‘ideas for date night’ in the UK in the past month, with a 6% increase since last week.
For those who are looking to catch the sunset before a romantic dinner with their loved one, New Forest static caravan sales provider Away Resorts has revealed the best woodland vantage spots to catch the golden hour.
This expansive area of open heathland near Brockenhurst offers unobstructed westward views across the heather. The flat terrain allows couples to find quiet spots away from the car park, with the low vegetation ensuring clear sightlines to the horizon. On clear evenings, the sky colours reflect across the heath, with ponies often grazing nearby.
This quiet hamlet on the northern edge of the Forest offers access to remote heathland and ancient woodland. The open heath west of the village provides elevated views, with the sun setting over the distant tree line. Cadman's Pool, a short walk from the village, offers a reflective water feature that catches the evening light, adding an extra dimension to the sunset experience. The area is quieter than some other Forest locations.
This elevated viewpoint near Lyndhurst offers sweeping westward views across the valley and surrounding heathland. The bench sits on high ground, providing unobstructed sightlines to the horizon and a comfortable spot to watch the changing light. This peaceful setting makes for the perfect romantic environment to watch the sky’s colours change.
This large natural pond surrounded by open heath offers excellent sunset reflections across the water. The western shore provides the best vantage point, with the sun setting directly over the pond and creating mirror images on calm evenings. Ponies and cattle often graze nearby, and the location remains accessible throughout winter.
This elevated heathland near Godshill offers one of the New Forest's most expansive sunset experiences. The open moorland provides 360-degree views, with the high ground catching the last light well.
Kate Watts, spokesperson at New Forest static caravan sales provider Away Resorts, says:
“The New Forest's diverse landscape offers some of the most atmospheric sunset locations in the region. The combination of open heathland, peaceful woodland and roaming wildlife creates the perfect backdrop for couples looking to share a memorable moment this Valentine's Day. These spots offer the ideal setting to catch the golden hour and enjoy quality time with your loved one.”
