Thinking about owning a holiday home? Chances are someone's got an opinion.
"They're expensive."
"You'll never use it."
"It's only for retired people."
"You'll have to rent it out every week to make it worthwhile."
We've heard them all.
Some myths have been hanging around longer than that mystery Tupperware in the back of the kitchen cupboard. So let's clear a few things up.
Reality: It’s an investment in you.
Buying a holiday home isn’t about chasing the next property boom. It’s about Friday afternoons that turn into weekends by the coast. Lazy breakfasts. Dogs asleep on the decking. Grandchildren who know exactly where the biscuit tin lives.
You’re investing in more time together, more spontaneous escapes and having your own place away whenever life gets a bit... life-y.
If you’re looking for a financial investment, this probably isn’t it. If you’re looking for your favourite place to disappear to, now we’re talking.
Reality: Like any home, there’s more to it.
Owning a holiday home is a bit like owning a car. Buying it is only part of the story.
There are annual pitch fees, utilities, insurance and a few other running costs to think about too. Nothing scary. Nothing hidden.
We’ll happily sit down for the money chat — tea and biscuits optional — and explain exactly what everything costs before you decide if it’s right for you.
Because surprises are brilliant when it’s birthdays. Less so when it’s bills.
Reality: They’re designed for holidays, not permanent living.
As much as we’d love to tell you to pack up your house and move in forever, holiday homes are just that — homes for holidays.
At Away Resorts, you’ll need to keep your main residential address elsewhere, as our holiday homes are designed for holiday use rather than permanent living. That means you can enjoy your place whenever the park is open, whether that’s weekends, school holidays or those last-minute escapes when you need a change of scenery.
The exception is Glendevon, where residential living is available, making it a little different from our other parks.
Not sure which park is right for you? Our team will happily explain the differences, so you know exactly what to expect before you buy.
Reality: Only if you want to.
Some owners like the idea of earning a little towards their running costs through subletting. Others keep it entirely for themselves, family and friends.
Both are perfectly good plans.
If you do fancy subletting, our team can explain how it works, what to expect and whether it’s available at your chosen park.
No pressure. Just options.
Reality: Some of our happiest owners started with one.
A pre-loved holiday home can be a brilliant way to get started. They offer fantastic value, plenty of character and everything you need to start making memories straight away.
Better still, every holiday home we sell — whether it’s brand new, ex-demo or pre-loved — comes with our exclusive 3-year warranty. So whichever one steals your heart, you can buy with confidence.
Who knows? You might decide to upgrade one day. Or you might find The One first time around.
Reality: Life changes. We’ve thought about that.
People move house. Families grow up. Plans change.
If the time comes to sell your holiday home, there are options available to help, including our Assisted Sale service at many parks.
We’d much rather have honest conversations from the beginning than pretend these things never happen.
Reality: Not even close.
Some people want morning sea swims. Others want woodland walks. Some love evening entertainment. Others are happiest with a book, a hot tub and absolutely nobody asking what’s for dinner.
That’s why we have parks all over the UK, each with its own personality.
The trick isn’t finding the “best” one. It’s finding the one that feels like yours.
Holiday home ownership isn’t for everyone.
But if the idea of having your own place away, escaping whenever you fancy and making more time for the people you love makes you smile...
...it might be worth coming for a nosey.
No pressure. We’ll put the kettle on.
Whilst you wait... just think about being in your swimmers, the sun's out and the smiles are big
