In an exceedingly busy summer period, Isle of Wight static caravan sales provider Away Resorts has compiled the 5 most underrated walks on the Isle of Wight, for quieter walks away from the main tourist trails. Visitors have been urged to avoid the most popular spots, with destinations such as Ryde, Newport, and Shanklin experiencing increased footfall congestion during peak seasons.

This walk follows the Coastal Path from Rew Street to Gurnard Marsh, taking 1 to 1.5 hours, at approximately 6km. Along the way, the route offers stunning coastal views and takes you through varied terrain, including marshland, woodlands, and coastal scenery.
The walk is relatively quiet, making it ideal for those looking to avoid crowded paths and experience a peaceful environment. Parking may be restricted at the trailhead, but there are spaces available near Rew Street.
This scenic 5.8 km circular trail near Wroxall offers a moderately challenging hike with an elevation gain of approximately 639 feet (195 meters). The route begins in the village of Wroxall and ascends through woodlands and open downland to reach the Worsley Monument.
The trail continues along the ridge, providing panoramic views over the island's landscape. As you descend, you'll pass through peaceful woodlands, making this walk ideal for those seeking a quieter and less crowded experience.
This 9.7 km loop trail near Freshwater offers a scenic and relatively easy walk, taking an average of 2 hours to complete. The route begins at Colwell Bay and follows the coastline through Totland, leading to the picturesque Freshwater Bay. Kate Watts, spokesperson for Away Resorts, said:
“With a rise in the popularity of staycations, popular beauty spots across the UK can become especially busy in recent years. It’s important to go off the beaten path to find a bit of peace and quiet, avoid the traffic and reduce impact to the local ecology. With hundreds of secluded spots to pick from across the Isle of Wight, you’ll always be able to find true wilderness”.
