Why we believe in the magic of a UK beach caravan holidayÂ
The 2026 Holiday Desires Report revealed that over half of Brits (52%) choose a beach or coastal holiday as one of their most desirable destinations. But why?Â
UK beach holidays offer a unique opportunity to disconnect, spend quality time with loved ones, and soak up the scenery. Time at the seaside is filled with a ton of sensory moments that are unique to the coast and loved by many Brits. Our survey of 3,000 Brits across 17 UK cities, waves moving over pebbles (83%) and waves crashing on the shore (82%) were named the most calming sounds in nature.Â
It’s not just the sounds of the seaside that help people unwind. Walking barefoot in the sand leaves Brits feeling relaxed (34%), peaceful (30%), calm (30%), and happy (29%), proving there really is something magical about a seaside holiday.
The UK regions that haven’t experienced a beach holidayÂ
While the love for beach and coastal holidays remains strong, new findings reveal that not everyone has experienced one of the most iconic seaside sensations: walking barefoot on the beach.Â
Nationally, 9% of Brits say they have never been barefoot on the beach, but this rises sharply in parts of the North, with the North East having the highest percentage (15%) of those who have never experienced sand between their toes.
This is followed by Scotland, Yorkshire & The Humber, the North West, and Northern Ireland (all 10%). On a city level, Newcastle has the highest percentage of Brits who have never been barefoot on the beach (15%), followed closely by Manchester and Edinburgh (both 12%). The South has significantly more Brits who have been barefoot on the beach, with the South East having the most (7%) and the South West closely trailing behind (8%).Â
