A Guide to Cycling Holidays Around Lincolnshire16th June 2015
Here at Tattershall Lakes, we’re known for our unbeatable local water sports facilities, with families and enthusiasts flocking to us every year to try their hand at water skiing, jet skiing, wakeboarding and more. But after days on the water, you and your family might fancy a bit of a change from all the watersports. At this point, why not go for a good old-fashioned bike ride?
If you want to stay in the local area, then your best choice is to head out together to finish the Tattershall and Woodhall Spa Circle. The route covers 19.5 miles and can be completed in around 2 hours. Along the way, two of the biggest highlights include Woodhall Spa itself, often called “the home of English golf.” The area is also of particular interest to history buffs, particularly those interested in military history. RAF Coningsby is nearby, as is the now defunct RAF Woodhall Spa. Coningsby is home to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, and Woodhall Spa was the base from which many notable raids were carried out near the end of World War 2. Most interestingly, it was also host to 617 squadron, a group we now like to refer to as “the Dambusters.” Further along the route, you will come to the charming village of Billinghay, which is home to a Grade 1 Listed building – the local Church of St. Michael – which dates back to the 13th Century.
If the circle route seems to short and you want more of a challenge or something to do for the whole day, then you could take your bikes on the 26-mile route to Lincolnshire’s most famous and popular seaside town – Skegness. After just over two hours on the bikes, you could swap the old bike in for a ride on one the town’s famous beach donkeys! There are plenty of fun and games to be had along the seafront, as well as delicious fish and chips, fresh sea air, and family memories to keep with you for a lifetime. If the bike ride there sounds too much, then you could always drive there with the bikes and take a leisurely bike ride along the sea front. There’s nothing quite like a change in scenery to help recharge the family batteries!
Whatever sports you’re into – on the water or in the bike saddle – there is something for everyone at Tattershall Lakes. Don’t forget we also have our relaxing spa and fishing lakes for those who wish to take the whole time on holiday that much slower.
