2014 Christmas Breaks at Whitecliff Bay

18th November 2014 Published by

Bing Crosby once sang about how he was dreaming of a white Christmas, but what we should really be writing songs about is a “Wight” Christmas. The Isle of Wight is the ideal Christmas destination for those looking to get away from it all and enjoy the festive season in beautiful surroundings just a short ferry hop across the Solent. What’s more, Whitecliff Bay continues to offer the perfect base from which to enjoy the spirit of the season on this magical island off England’s south coast.

The Isle of Wight offers a great deal to visitors at Christmas time. Whether you enjoy listening to carols being sung on a town square, a drink and a hearty meal in front of a roaring pub fireplace, or simply wrapping up warm and enjoying the dramatic view of the sea, the cliffs and beautiful countryside – there’s something to please everyone.

More specifically, there are other special activities to fill your days with that are all easily accessible from Whitecliff Bay. The kids will certainly enjoy a day going to the Santa Specials as The Steam Railway. Available on December 22nd, 23rd and 24th (earlier dates also available), there is Santa’s Grotto, a Christmas market, a marvelous winter wonderland to wander and explore, as well as a memorable 10-mile train trip on a historic steam locomotive. The event is open from 9am to 7pm.

Another famous address very close to Whitecliff Bay is Osborne House, the former summer residence of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. On December 27 and 28 (commonly known as “Betwixtmas” time), Osborne House is offering special guided tours where you can see the rooms now lavishly decorated for Christmas and gain insight into a Victorian royal Christmas. After hearing from the experienced guides, you can also freely explore the grounds and enjoy the commanding views on the Solent offered from the house itself.

It may be one of England’s larger islands, but the Isle of Wight is easily explorable by car or bus, and is a veritable treasure trove of winter delights. At Whitecliff Bay we have numerous accommodation options in December and Christmas week including 4- and 7-night breaks. Check the “Offers” section of our website to learn more.
