Autumn Walking Weekend in Whitecliff Bay1st September 2014
As sultry summer heat passes, the cooler and more pleasant autumn begins to wash over the Isle of Wight. A favourite season among many, the autumn brings colour change to the local foliage, but one thing it doesn’t change is the amount of family fun to be here on our beautiful island! One of the best activities to engage in during this season is walking, and lucky for you, the island’s Walking Festival is just around the corner.
The Isle of Wight Walking Festival happens every year, and the autumn walks will be held from October 23rd to 26th. In the past we have certainly mentioned the many walks that are available to suit all age and fitness levels, so you may be familiar with that. Click the above link to see the myriad walks available, all clearly laid out where you can filter by distance, speed (leisurely, brisk etc.) and difficulty. The island’s routes easily accommodates all tastes.
Beyond these routes, there are other special walks that have been developed in recent years. On October 24th, for example, you can take part in a new Speed Dating Walk – not only can you keep active and healthy, but you just meet Mr./Mrs. Right while you’re about it! There are also Family Discovery Walks, Ghost Walks, Food Walks, Garden Walks and more. It really is the best way to explore the Isle of Wight and discover its real treasures, such as its natural beauty; dramatic coastal scenery, rolling countryside and azure waters.
Finally, let us not forget what health benefits you can enjoy from an autumn walking weekend on the Isle of Wight. Regular walking can help lower your blood pressure, strengthen your bones, reduce stress and enhance mental wellbeing. What’s more, it’s a great way to burn calories and get rid of body fat, and also helps improve your flexibility and co-ordination, which in turn can help reduce risk of injury if you should slip or fall over at any point.
Join us this autumn for the Isle of Wight Walking Festival. There are walks for families, walks for fun, walks for fitness; it’s a great experience both for seasoned ramblers and those just looking for leisurely saunter around the island.
