square-dogAre you a dog person? Have you ever fancied going to see (or even entering) a dog show? You might want to check out the Open Dog Show run in Newport on October 17th by the Isle of Wight Canine Association. The event is being run at the Medina Leisure Centre on Fairlee Road in Newport. If you have a qualifying dog and fancy your chances, you could even enter and scoop the prize money of more than £300. Hurry up and get your entry form finished if you do, the postal deadline is September 22nd (postmark), and the online registration deadline is September 29th.

If you’ve never been to a dog show before, it’s a great chance to learn more about pedigree dogs, as well as meet more like-minded people who love all things canine. What’s more, you get to enjoy it in the beautiful surroundings of the Isle of Wight. Don’t just come for the Open Dog Show though, you can also stay and see what else is going on in the month of October:

First, there’s the Bembridge Harbour Food Festival, located just a stone’s throw from Whitecliff Bay. Running from October 2nd to 4th, the festival promises an amazing array of local delights both in the festival’s own food hub located on Embankment Road, and also in an array of local pubs and eateries. Second, you could also stop by the “Beyond the Red Rope Exhibition” at Osborne House. From 10:00am to 5:00pm daily, you can see a wonderful exhibition of contemporary art inspired by this former family home of her majesty Queen Victoria. All the works were created by local group Quaycraft, and they aim to show how contemporary art inspired by history can evoke stories and a sense of place and history.

This year, the festival is from October 3rd to October 31st, and fills the forest with lush colours, flavours and magic of the Indian sub-continent.
