Local events on the Isle of Wight

Not only does Whitecliff Bay host some terrific entertainment and activities on park but the local area is always bustling with brilliant local events.

As well as the fantastic local attractions, there’s also a lot of great events happening on the island this year to celebrate 175 years of family adventures! We’ve picked a selection of our favourite festivals, events and shows taking place on the Isle of Wight for 2019.

The Wight Proms

29th August – 1st September

The festival will comprise ‘A Wight Laugh’ on the Friday night, bringing you international comedy to Cowes for One Night Only starring comedy legends Alan Davies, Shappi Khorsandi and supported by Esther Manito. ‘Wight at the Musicals’ on the Saturday night, starring Ruthie Henshall with West End Stars, Craig Mather, Tessa Kadler, Mike Christie and Vivien Carter, plus Live Band. ‘Last Wight of the Proms’ on the Sunday, starring Lesley Garrett.

Island Heritage Train Days @ Isle of Wight Steam Railway

8th September

Island Heritage Train Days,  there’s plenty to see and do around the Railway, including a chance to explore our Train Story Discovery Centre and learn the story of our Victorian and Edwardian railway vehicles, and their lasting impact on all our lives!

American car show

International Classic Car Show - Newport Quay

14th September

Now in its 18th year, the famous Isle of Wight Charity Classic Car event promises to be the biggest and best ever. Vehicles from all over the UK and mainland Europe will be attending this unique two-day show on the 14th and 15th September 2019. There will be a spectacular collection of vintage, classic, custom and retro cars and other rare vehicles. This two-day event will guarantee to delight children and adults of all ages.

21st September 

Live entertainment, parades, food and drink and parties across the Island, you’ll want to make sure you’re here for this celebration. Special offers in restaurants, cafes, visitor attractions and some fabulous accommodation and travel deals too. Created in 2016, this will be the fourth year we’re celebrating, and events promise to be bigger and better than ever before.

Isle of Wight Literary Festival

10th –  13th October

Now in its eighth year, the Literary Festival is a non-profit making charitable trust.  Over time the Festival has gone from strength to strength and has had a wide range of speakers from Max Hastings to Mary Berry, Michael Morpurgo to Deborah Moggach, Andrew Marr to Val McDermid.

Fright Night at Isle of Wight Steam Railway

31st October

Join us for a truly unique Halloween Fright Night Experience. Dress-up as witches, wizards and ghouls, or don your best Bride of Dracula or Beetlejuice costume. Lurk menacingly on the platform, then take our ‘ghost train’ through the Island’s deserted night time countryside, passing darkened woodland and desolate fields.

Yarmouth Guy Fawkes Night

5th November

Celebrate the Gunpowder plot and Guy Fawkes of 1605. At Yarmouth on Tuesday 5th November from 6pm with a party in The Square, a Guy competition, entertainment, torchlight parade to The Common to light the beacon and a fireworks display to round off.

Santa Specials at Isle of Wight Steam Railway

30th November – 24th December 

There’s always such a lovely festive atmosphere at Havenstreet station, with Christmas music, a bustling Christmas market, and lots of entertainment and magic shows just for children! Make sure you enjoy a stroll through Santa’s sparkling Winter Wonderland before going to see him … and if you’re good he’ll have a wonderful gift just for you! Then relax in your cosy steam-heated compartment as one of our majestic steam locomotives hauls your train on a 10-mile round trip through the Island’s winter landscape.
